Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Maybe a bit of a bias for me but I love stories involving censors and anti-piracy officials taking Ls. The ending fumbles a bit (the Censor itself turns out to just be an AI Bryce Lynch cooked up that went a little overboard) but the last few moments feel genuinely touching, as if we were witnessing the beginning of a Blank Rebellion storyline that never got to play out. A kid and her mother are separated, and both parties are horrified at the possibility that the metrocops and censors took the other, and Edison has to navigate the reunion of the family while keeping police thugs at bay. We find out that Bruno, the radical leader from The Blanks, is building a printing press to distribute educational material to marginalized kids, an extra-flamin'-hot illegal act as, naturally, books are banned in this world. ![]() I'd say that this episode is second place behind Grossberg's Return for actually daring to grapple with bigger ideas and managing to execute the suplex. It comes to a head where a pirate whose only real crime is trying to teach poor kids gets arrested, but not before giving the smirking, cruel, positively gross censor official a serious verbal lashing. "Officially." Meanwhile Edison caterwauls about a notice he received from Network 23's censors, a shadowy body of enforcers that strangle showrunners and, apparently, also enforce copyright by sending gangs of metrocops after pirates. It's all very illegal, of course: "Nobody can read around here," Reg explains before appending a wink. Children in the fringes, priced out of academies and premium cable television schooling, instead rely on bootleg screenings of educational programming. Meanwhile, we discover something far more sinister brewing. Just when you get the idea that the show might actually start acknowledging the romantic undertones between the two, however, Blank Reg and Dominique show up and the affair turns into a double date, with Edison playfully complimenting Dom's grace and mature beauty. ![]() Immediately, fringe society seizes on the opportunity to turn the occasion into a festival - where Edison and Theora go out together under a protective Zik-Zak branded umbrella. Zik-Zak's "Sky Clearance Program," where they shoot down old obsolete satellites to make room for new ones, inadvertently causes space junk to fall on the city's fringes. The review of the final two episodes, a postmortem exploring what this show could've been, and a short-list of episodes in case you, too, want to soak in the vibes, all below the fold! S02E07 - LessonsĪnother favorite episode of mine. Headroom: 2:3 M.) There follows an adventure tale involving a corrupt television network overstimulating viewers to death with super-short subliminal commercials called “ blipverts. We're finally here at the end! Two more episodes to talk about, along with me waxing poetic about how all of this went so wrong.Ĭheck out the previous entries if you haven't already: (The last thing he saw before an automobile accident that read Max. His first appearance was in a 1985 dystopian comedy for British television, Max Headroom: 20 Minutes Into The Future, in which a television journalist played by Frewer named Edison Carter gets his consciousness cloned and uploaded into an AI wacky television host named Max Headroom. ![]() While the image of Max Headroom is likely familiar to most, the origin of this character can get a little murky. (Stream Mandy or, better yet, The Greasy Strangler, if you dare.) While a reboot of an old “oh, I know that!” IP can often lead to rolled eyes, anyone who has seen a SpectreVision project knows this group comes correct. Halt and Catch Fire co-creator Christopher Cantwell, working with Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah’s company SpectreVision, will bring the series to AMC. Max Headroom, the perplexing fictional character played by Matt Frewer in a variety of television forms, is coming back, as per an announcement in Deadline. Grab your floppy discs, crank the Duran Duran, and crack open some ice cold New Coke.
